Penkridge, Staffordshire – Risen Phoenix – Magnificent Narrow Boat for Sale

Property description

Taking you from the back to the front of our 58’ narrow boat Risen Phoenix

The back deck has two removable unique high stools for when steering boat, under the deck, which is accessible from off the deck (via lifting hatch) and from the rear bulk head (from where you get access to the prop greasing nipple) is the hot water/central heating boiler. You then drop down into the rear bedroom with fixed double bed and wardrobe

Moving on through the boat you next enter the engine room with its 1930s JP2 Lister traditional engine, which we were informed, was, for the majority of its life, used as an engine to run a generator in a government ordnance survey printing factory. This engine is operated from the rear hatch area via traditional Push and Pull gear engagement leaver and spin wheel for acceleration.  Also, the engine room houses the generator and inverter for charging the dry batteries and 240 electric needs; this is a superb traditional engine room with lots of brass and copper to polish.

Next is the bathroom with a shower, wash hand basin and pump out toilet all beautifully fitted and modern. We then arrive at the four seat dining area which converts to a double bed and has seat storage under one side and the hot water cylinder under the other side.

We then enter the fully fitted kitchen with washing machine, gas oven & grill, and microwave in an oak finished tower unit,  a four stainless steel gas hob, a single drainer sink unit, fridge and wall and base fitted oak units. Passing through we arrive at a very spacious living area with welsh dresser, with four deep drawers, two double free standing settees, two side tables and fitted units to house your DVD and CD collection, again with high quality solid oak finish. This is complimented by a seeking signal aerial TV and a traditional solid fuel enclosed burner.

There is a front canvas covered deck where a freezer stands. And beyond the covered cratch area is a further small deck area which accommodates the gas bottle storage area.

Throughout the boat the windows are solid brass port holes with Houdini  roof windows in both the lounge and dining area. There is a very nicely designed front window to the living room with etchings of the Risen Phoenix in the glass- so roll up the cratch cover sides and you have your panoramic views.

The boat lighting is via LED down lighting and occasional lamps standing on side tables etc

The internal fit out is all in oak and to an exceptional high quality standard as you would expect from a team of top quality builders.

Property features

This boat was designed and project manged built by the current owners (who are builders by profession) in a trad style and with a superb finish throughout. The paint finish is again in a traditional style with historic livery/signage aligned to an old carrying company who transported chemicals in special narrow boats fitted with tanks that passed by on the Ashton canal to their drop off point at Clayton Anneline. When one of the owners stayed with his grandma as a young boy in East Manchester this was a familiar sight to him.

This is an ideal live aboard boat and it epitomises the word ergonomics for its use of space.
